About Tyson
Over 30 years playing experience and 7 years private teaching experience (and loving it!) Proficient in multiple playing styles - classical, jazz, modern, etc.
I'm very proud and supportive of my student base - those having sat Australian Music Examination Board (AMEB) exams achieving above an 'A' grade on average over my teaching career! Congrats everyone!
My ambition is to now create a group learning environment to extend this learning to more students - I mean, why not! Starting with groups of 4, with intent to expand class numbers and bring on teachers (and experienced students) to build an amazing atmosphere and music culture!
Give it a try for a term and see!

Students and Parents/Caregivers should arrive up to 10 minutes before the start of lesson to ensure a smooth start. Parents/caregivers are encouraged to stay and watch the lesson, with tea, coffee and light refreshments made available.
At the beginning of the session, students will select one of four brand-new Kawai CX202s keyboards to play on! Keyboards come with comfortable headphones that can tune to your own keyboard controlled by teaching staff. Keyboards feature weighted keys and key-top runners to support students with locating notes.
I run through introductions for participating students and staff, followed by an overview of the upcoming lesson.
Lesson structure typically commences with review of the basics such as keyboard features, correct seating position, correct hand positioning and dedicated warm-ups.
We progress onto tempo/beat-keeping, followed by music theory tailored to the current standard of music learning.
We run activities to keep the main dynamic of classes fun! These will include experimenting with other instruments, co-op playing in pairs/as a group, experimenting with different keyboard sounds, beat-keeping exercises, knowledge testing and much more!
Students will practice songs at their own individual developmental pace. Individual feedback is provided to students during this segment on rotation, allowing them to practice while I observe other students in class.
Parent/caregivers are emailed later that day with a lesson summary and recommended learning materials to support continued learning.
Recommendation to Parents/Caregivers: To get the most out of lessons, students are encouraged to have their own keyboard/piano at home to practice on. I encourange a consistent practice routine of at least two-three 10-minute practices per week at home to reinforce learning. From experience the best times of the day for practicing are either before school or first-thing when arriving home from school (put a reminder in your phone if you're prone to forgetting!)
