About Suzanne
I am a licensed mental health counselor with an active LMHC in the state of New Mexico. I have been a professional artist, illustrator, and graphic designer. I know the business and pleasure aspects of learning art.
I also have a wide knowledge of art history and at times art history can come into play in the lesson plans.
I have taught college-level graphic design and illustration and studied and researched better ways to teach art. I have one published entry of my research into deeper learning so that the learning can then be applied.
As a former child therapist, I know the developmental levels that are common for the age of each child. Self-esteem is an important aspect of my teaching young children.

I am a client-centered teacher and use a diagnostic interview (essay) to tailor your needs to my teaching style and the content being taught.
Typical lesson plan: After the brief written essay about you as the art student, we chat on video chat to begin the lesson plans. Lesson plans are fluid in that they can change as the student progresses. Lesson plans include in-the-moment live art making and discussion after with critiques from the teacher and the student. Lots of conversation before and after the art-making. Lesson plans include homework assignments based on the student's current level.
What sets me apart is my ability to hear and work within the student's comfort level. I am accessible most of the time. I am a professional artist. I am also a licensed art therapist, but this is strickly art teaching.
