About Charlie
Charlie has been teaching at schools & colleges throughout New Zealand, he is also the preferred supplier of self-defense courses & workshops for three of the largest universities in Auckland & Hamilton. He also ran & taught at four Kung Fu & Chinese Boxing schools throughout Auckland before being presented with his black sash. With a thirst for learning his training hadn't stopped, he started training in Krav Maga before moving on to become a registered ICS Close Quarters Combat instructor; as of March 2020, he became a Level 10 Black Belt Integrated Combat Systems Master Instructor. Charlie was also the combat striking & sparring instructor for the Krav Fighter students in Auckland. Charlie is a certified Level 7 Unarmed Combative Instructor with Hock Hochheim's CQC system, plus a Level Three PAC (Pacific Archipelago Combative) Instructor and a Level Three FFC (Freelancer Filipino Combative Instructor). The grading and certification were conducted in Auckland by one of the world's leading CQC instructors; Hock Hochheim. At the beginning of 2019, Charlie and his team of instructors started developing their syllabus to cater specifically for the blind and partially sighted. Working with the Blind Foundation in Auckland, the programme as far as we know was a first for New Zealand. Along with the above Charlie completed Krav Maga Knife Workshops: achieving Levels 1, 2 and 3. In August 2022 Charlie moved to Adelaide where teaches his MINDSET Self-Defense system along with the ICS syllabus. On top of all his achievements, Charlie has also run women's self-defense workshops & courses throughout New Zealand for the last fifteen years. The workshops are probably the best, most practical, comprehensive, and informative hands-on self-defense workshops for females in Australia & New Zealand.

When all awareness, avoidance & de-escalation fails, suddenly it turns violent & physical, and you realise that you have no other option but to fight back & get yourself to safety.
The founder of the MINDSET self-defence system and chief instructor is Charlie Riley, who has combined over 30 years of traditional martial arts, street self-defence and close-quarters combat experience. He's a certified Master Close-Quarters Combat instructor, Black Sash Kung Fu instructor, Kickboxing and Chinese Boxing instructor along with that he has other instructorship qualifications in Unarmed Combatives, Pacific Archipelago Combatives and Filipino Combatives.
Charlie can provide one-on-one training from a gym in Croydon Park, Adelaide, if you prefer to train privately in a group (i.e family, friends etc) then he can also accommodate that. Do you have your own venue then Charlie can also travel to your place.
