About Hamish

Originally from regional South Australia, I picked up the guitar at age eight and havn’t put it down since. Inspired early on by bands like John Butler Trio, The Living End, and Pendulum, I spent my school years playing as much as possible and jumping at every chance to perform.

In my early twenties, I fell down the rabbit hole of African American music traditions, which led me to study Jazz and Improvisation at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music. There, I trained with some of Australia’s leading jazz musicians, including Stephen Magnusson, Fran Swinn, Christopher Hale, Andrea Keller, Gian Slater, and Jordan Murray, while developing my voice as a guitarist, singer, and songwriter.

Since graduating in 2024, I have been performing regularly around Melbourne as both a solo artist and collaborator. I've worked with a range of artists including Mols, Anthony Probyn, Sonali Wijetunga, Brad Bellard, and Brandon Appleby (Bhive Sound Space).

About the lesson

My lessons are relaxed, engaging, and tailored to each student’s musical interests and goals. Whether you’re learning your favorite songs, preparing for AMEB or VCE exams, developing your technique, building confidence, or exploring improvisation, lessons are designed to make learning guitar both rewarding and enjoyable.
