About Josephine

Hi, I’m Josephine, and I love teaching and helping students feel confident in their learning. I currently teach third grade and taught fourth grade last year, which has helped me understand how learning builds from year to year and how to support students at different levels.

When I tutor, my goal is to make learning feel less stressful and more manageable. I create a positive, supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, trying new strategies, and making mistakes as part of learning. I am patient, encouraging, and focused on helping each student grow at their own pace.

Outside of teaching, I enjoy baking sourdough bread, reading, hiking, spending time outdoors, and exploring new places. I also have a golden retriever named Winnie Mae, whom I love dearly.

I look forward to working with students who want extra support, a confidence boost, or a creative approach to learning.

About the lesson

My tutoring approach is centered on creative, personalized instruction that meets each learner where they are. I believe there is no single “right” way to learn, especially in subjects like math, so I use multiple teaching strategies and adjust my approach based on each student’s needs, strengths, and learning style.

During lessons, I focus on building understanding and confidence. I break concepts into clear, manageable steps, use visual models and real-world examples, and encourage students to explain their thinking. This helps me identify what they already know and where support is needed. I also prioritize patience, positive reinforcement, and creating a comfortable space where students feel safe asking questions and making mistakes.

A typical lesson begins with a quick check-in and review, followed by direct instruction or guided practice on the focus skill. We then work through examples together before transitioning to independent practice with support as needed. Lessons often end with reflection or review to reinforce learning and track progress.

What sets me apart as a tutor is my classroom experience across multiple grade levels and my flexibility in teaching. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in education and teach third grade, but I have experience teaching students from kindergarten through seventh grade. I tutor all subjects for grades K–8, with a particular emphasis on exploring different math strategies to help students truly understand concepts rather than memorize steps.

My lessons are ideal for elementary and middle school students who need extra support, want to strengthen foundational skills, or benefit from personalized, creative instruction tailored to their individual learning needs.
