About Kiya
I am a junior at James Madison University majoring in Political Science with minors in History, Social Justice Studies, and Russian Studies. Although science is not my primary academic field, I have completed college-level science coursework and have a strong general academic background. I currently work as a substitute teacher for Harrisonburg City Public Schools, which has given me experience helping students with different subjects, learning styles, and academic needs. I am patient and adaptable, and I am comfortable explaining the same concept in multiple ways until a student finds an approach that makes sense to them. My goal is to make science less intimidating while helping students become more confident and independent learners.

My science tutoring focuses on helping students understand concepts in a clear, manageable way. I can help students review class material, work through homework, study for tests, understand vocabulary, and break complicated topics into simpler steps. I especially enjoy helping students connect science concepts to real-world examples so that the material is easier to remember and understand. Sessions can include reviewing notes, creating study materials, practicing questions, or going through difficult concepts together. I am best suited for elementary and middle school science, as well as general introductory science courses.
