About Shiyao
In 2007, I won silver award in a musical contest of Liaoning Province. In 2008, I won a gold award in an international contest of Chinese traditional instruments. In 2017 HSC music, I achieved full mark in four different pieces and was then nominated for encore. In 2018, I won the 3rd place in the Sydney oriental cup competition. In 2018, I served as Guzheng Performer in Australia China Economics, Trade & Culture Association annual meeting. In 2024, I participated in the Australia-China Spring Festival Gala as a guest performer on the guzheng with the Meya Orchestra. That same year, she also took part in the recording of a traditional culture microfilm at the University of Sydney, serving as a Guzheng guest performer. In recent years, I have been invited multiple times to serve as a traditional Guzheng culture lecturer in Sydney's primary and secondary schools. I conduct these lectures entirely in English, promoting the culture of the Guzheng.

Perfect! I had my first guzheng lesson with Shiyao today and she was wonderful. She was very patient and took the time to understand what I’d like to achieve from my lessons as an adult beginner with no music background. I’m really looking forward to continuing my learning journey with her.

Shiyao has been studying Guzheng since primary school and has passed the grade 10 exam. She has been a part-time Guzheng teacher since 2016, and officially became a guzheng teacher in 2018. She has been teaching Guzheng for 8 years. All the students she has taught have successfully passed the Guzheng examination. During this period, she participated in various performances of large and small scale, and every time she performed very well.
