About Christina

I have taught and worked in the music departments at Ealing Junior Music School and Latymer Upper School, and as a self-employed private tutor. I have recently completed my MMus in flute performance at Trinity Laban, pending graduation, where I have tried to engage with as much music as possible, ranging from performing and recording newly-commissioned works for my chamber ensemble, to learning baroque flute. As well as being chosen to play flute in the Trinity Laban Symphony Orchestra in both years of study, which gave me the opportunity to perform alongside members of the Philharmonia Orchestra, I also played six different woodwind instruments in Trinity’s production of Sweet Charity last summer. I actively sought to become a member of the Trinity Laban Saxophone Choir and a clarinet quartet, and sang in the Trinity Laban Chamber Choir, an auditioned choir which primarily comprises of first-study vocal students at the Conservatoire.

As an undergraduate student at the University of Cambridge, I was a recipient of the University’s prestigious Instrumental Award for Chamber Music and was a Choral Volunteer at King’s College, singing in the choir for evensong services in the College Chapel each week. In addition to these duties and fulfilling the academic demands of the Natural Sciences course, I performed in countless college music society concerts and several theatrical productions with four different university-wide societies. Additionally, as a member of the orchestras within the Cambridge University Musical Society, I worked with a number of acclaimed musicians including Sian Edwards, Natalia Luis-Bassa, Simon Channing and Keith Bragg.

About the lesson

Through my teaching experiences, I have developed different methods to effectively communicate and explain concepts to students in a way they can comprehend. At Ealing Junior Music School, from helping out at ‘Come and Play’ events since I was a student there, I learnt how to help prospective students to successfully produce their first sound on the flute within minutes; as a deputy teacher, I have experimented with teaching methods I learnt during my postgraduate studies and from attending flute masterclasses at other London conservatoires to see which techniques worked best for each individual pupil.

Perfect! Christina has been teaching our daughter the recorder for the last 6 months. She is also teaching her music reading. Christina is very polite and patient. Our daughter is progressing rapidly and I have no hesitation in recommending her to anyone wishing to learn playing the recorder.
