About Gloria

My passion for helping others learn started in grade 10 when a friend said 'I don't understand the teacher'. I explained the accounting principle and found great satisfaction when I saw the penny drop. I enjoyed helping friends with English essays and seeing their faces when they achieved their first A. I personally achieved an OP 5 in High School, balancing studies with various leadership roles including College Captain. I completed a Bachelor's degree, with a GPA of 6.5, still holding a reputation for nurturing.. often being addressed as 'Mom' by the lecturer. As a relatively new recruit in the Corporate world, I gained the trust and confidence of our most successful and senior Managers who would attend my training workshops. I have 25 years experience training staff in a professional environment, attaining national awards for the role. When I had children, my passion for personal growth naturally moved to young people. I've tutored my 10 & 13 year old throughout their schooling, with favorable results. My daughter, who's in grade 8, is in the advanced classes for English, Maths & Science. In 2020, I wrote a Children's picture book and was the first self-published Author to be accepted into Gold Coast Libraries. I went on to deliver engaging writing workshops at Libraries and Primary Schools. Teacher feedback was that I inspired even the apprehensive writers to start a writers club. The children with learning difficulties remained attentive and involved during my sessions. Working with children has been the most rewarding for many reasons. They obviously have so much to learn, are curious and fun!

About the lesson

Tutor for Prep to grade 8 students.

Understanding how a child learns and what their areas of opportunity are, is the initial and continuous focus. I'm flexible with how we use the session - on homework, extension work,or assessments. I will request access to these in advance so I can plan and use session time effectively. I'm approachable and patient so will try a different technique if understanding hasn't been reached. I'm also pretty good at hand ball if we need a reset!

Coaching learning techniques and systems is just as important as the subject content. We'll be creating excellent study habits which can result in more leisure time and better grades.

I'm creative and a passionate cook so I can incorporate this into some lessons, if interested.
