About Ojas

I grew up in Calgary, always curious about how things work, which led me to Engineering at UBC. Outside of academics, I coach basketball, volunteer with my community, and love connecting with people from different backgrounds. I bring that same warmth and curiosity to every lesson I teach.

About the lesson

My Teaching Approach
I believe the best way to learn math and science is to truly understand the why behind each concept, not just memorize formulas or steps. As an Engineering student at UBC, I rely on logic and problem-solving every day, and I bring that same mindset to tutoring: breaking complex topics into smaller, manageable pieces, connecting new material to things students already know, and using real-world examples to make abstract concepts click. I adapt my teaching style to each student, since some learn best through visual diagrams, others through worked examples, and others by talking through the problem out loud.
A Typical Lesson
A typical session starts with a quick check-in to see what the student is currently working on in class and where they're feeling stuck. From there, I'll briefly review the underlying concept, working through a few examples together before having the student try similar problems on their own while I guide them through any sticking points. I always leave time at the end to recap what was covered and identify what to focus on next, whether that's reinforcing today's topic or previewing an upcoming test or assignment.
What Sets Me Apart
I'm patient, encouraging, and genuinely invested in helping students build confidence, not just get through the next assignment. My own coaching experience (I've coached basketball for two years) has taught me how to communicate clearly with people of different learning styles and skill levels, and how to keep sessions structured and goal-oriented while still making them feel approachable. As a current Engineering student, I also understand firsthand what it takes to stay organized and motivated through a demanding course load, something I try to instill in the students I work with.
Who My Lessons Are For
My lessons are best suited for students in middle school through high school who need support in Math (up to Calculus) and Science (Physics, Chemistry, and general science). This includes students looking for help with regular coursework, those preparing for upcoming tests or exams, and students who simply want to build a stronger foundation before moving on to more advanced material.
