About Louis

I'm a second-year medical student at the University of Exeter. I offer tuition in Biology, Chemistry and Maths because these are subjects that I enjoyed throughout school and chose to continue studying at a high level through the International Baccalaureate before progressing to medical school.
One of the biggest parts of studying medicine is learning how to explain complex ideas clearly, whether to other students or, eventually, to patients. Breaking down challenging concepts into simple, manageable steps and seeing the moment when something finally "clicks" is massively rewarding. Being the student others turned to to explain difficult concepts at school has prompted me to pursue tutoring where I can put all these skills I have learnt into action.
Having recently achieved high grades in my own GCSEs and the IB, before entering medical school, I have in-depth knowledge of the topics I am studying. Every student understands the pressures and challenges we face in the exam hall but I know what it takes to succeed. Through my tutoring I can pass this valuable knowledge onto my students.

About the lesson

We have all sat in a lecture and lesson and completely lost focus on what is being said. I aim for my lessons to be the opposite. I help my students understand topics through clear explanations using diagrams, mind maps, mnemonics or any of the various study techniques I have picked up and used on my way to and through medical school. My decision depends on what's worked for me in the past but also through experience with a student what will work best for them. Throughout explanations I engage students with questions on the topic to turn the explanation into a discussion. This ensures I know their knowledge gap is being filled efficiently.
Applying knowledge to exam questions is integral to exam success; therefore I consistently test students' knowledge with questions. This helps find areas that may need more focus but also lets me pass on my exam technique experience ready for the big day.
When teaching all these topics I aim to bring an enthusiasm to the lesson that is only possible when covering topics you have a passion for.
