About Immi

Bonjour! Ciao!

My name is Immi - I am a final year languages student at the University of Bath, studying French and Italian. My main passion lies in comparative literature and literary translation, and I am very interested in culture - how we all think, communicate, work, celebrate, love, in different ways.

Just like most people in the UK, I started learning French at the age of 11 in secondary school. After GCSEs (9) and A Level (A), I decided I wanted to continue languages further and I began Italian at University. Now, I have reached a language proficiency level of C1 in both languages, as well as having begun German classes. I have lived and studied in both France and Italy, and travelled around the two countries working in vineyards and market gardens.

Confidence in speaking the languages I have learnt didn't necessarily come naturally to me, but now I can say I feel comfortable talking to anyone. I would love to help out anyone who has also felt these nerves!

About the lesson

Learning a foreign language is not an easy task, and takes plenty of practice. It requires a distinct approach for each person.

Having experienced French A Level and GCSE first hand, I know how difficult it can be to reach a level of fluency and confidence in speaking a foreign language, especially during oral examinations when nerves are high and a pressure to succeed stacked against you. Despite my passion for the subject and my enjoyment of learning languages, I used to find oral examinations terrifying. Now, after having lived, worked and studied in France, I understand what it takes to feel more comfortable speaking a foreign language - and despite what you may think, this is not just a question of vocabulary.

I wish to aid students to feel more at ease speaking French - which is essential to oral proficiency; feeling tense changes how you produce sounds, your ability to understand what the examiner is asking you, and most of all how you answer a question.

My weekly lessons will focus on the thematics provided to A Level and GCSE students depending on the exam board in which their classes are following. We will work through typical oral style questions and how to display a richness of vocabulary and a certain comfortability when speaking the language. Lessons will be 30mins / 60mins.
