About Sahil
Hello! My name is Sahil and I’m a second-year undergraduate studying Chemistry at the University of Oxford. I’m someone who loves to learn, and often spends my free time reading books, going on runs, bouldering and playing the piano. Chemistry is one of my main passions; I enjoy the synthesis of facts in science and all the pleasing patterns that emerge from studying it. I have done a fair amount of physics and maths in my first year of undergraduate study, so remain fresh in those areas as well. Without wanting to appear lacking in humility, I was often the person other students would come to for help with homework in school. As such, I have had many years’ experience in casual tutoring, and feel very validated when I come up with a creative way to explain a certain concept that makes the other person suddenly ‘get it’.

I find that I learn best not when teachers tell me the answer, but when they give me the tools to come to the answer myself. With natural sciences and mathematics, students often find them difficult because they are taught to remember a list of facts without seeing the inevitable connections between them.
As a tutor, I will strive to ensure that you can conceptually understand the material you need to cover, putting you in good stead to respond to more difficult examination questions that stretch your knowledge or require you to apply pre-existing knowledge to unfamiliar situations. I do this by providing analogies, asking questions that help you critically think about what you are learning and by recommending extra reading resources. Typically I find lessons are most productive when they are around an hour long.
Although I have little experience tutoring on a platform such as this, I have tutored family friends Chemistry at IB and University level, and have provided practice Oxbridge interviews at my old school. As such, I am no stranger to tutoring. As someone who completed GCSEs and the IB, my tutoring would largely be focused on people undertaking these qualifications, but can adapt content to teach on slightly different syllabuses (for example, A-Level).
