About James Alexander
I'm a British educator, author, and filmmaker with more than fifteen years of teaching experience in international and bilingual school environments. My academic background includes a BA in TESOL, a Graduate Diploma in the Teaching Profession, and an MA in Victorian Gothic: History, Literature and Culture from the University of Portsmouth.
Alongside classroom teaching, I have worked with students preparing applications to competitive universities in the United States and the United Kingdom. I have supported students through the Common Application process, helping them develop compelling personal narratives, refine essays, and present academic and extracurricular projects effectively.
As a published writer and filmmaker, I bring a strong understanding of storytelling, structure, and voice to the admissions process. Many students struggle to translate their experiences into a clear and engaging narrative, and my role is to help them shape their ideas into authentic and well-structured applications.
My approach combines academic mentoring with practical writing guidance to help students communicate their achievements and ambitions clearly and confidently.

I specialise in helping students prepare strong university applications, particularly for US and UK universities. With experience guiding students through the Common Application process, I help students develop compelling personal narratives, refine essays, and present their academic and extracurricular projects effectively.
My approach focuses on helping students identify what makes their story unique and how to communicate it clearly and authentically. We work together on brainstorming ideas, structuring essays, refining language, and ensuring the final application reflects the student’s voice and achievements.
I also help students think strategically about extracurricular projects, academic interests, and how these can strengthen a university application. Many students struggle to connect their experiences into a coherent story, and my role is to help them shape that narrative.
Sessions are collaborative and supportive, with detailed feedback and practical guidance throughout the application process.
