About Carl
I am a highly achieved academic and professional, who is passionate about enabling others to excel in their own interests and challenges. Having worked as a statistician and analyst across the UK government, and developing creative numeric methods to apply in social sciences and humanities, I bridge the gap between creative and scientific specialities. My unique understanding of difficult subjects can help others who think the struggle to realise that they've simply been looking at it in the wrong way. I want to help others become excited about maths and other technical subjects by showing that they can be looked at with a fun and creative mindset.

Often the way Maths is taught can be difficult, challenging, and boring. My philosophy is to look at Maths not as a formulaic task, but a creative outlet for understanding the world outside the classroom. Having struggled with Maths at school, and falling outside of the normal "mathematical personality", I was able to excel in my A-level and GCSE exams by taking a creative approach which I emulate through my lessons. I am a dedicated and approachable tutor with a strong academic background in Mathematics and the social sciences, including top grades at GCSE and A‑Level and a First Class degree from the University of Cambridge. With experience in applying quantitative methods across government and consulting roles, I bring both subject expertise and real‑world insight to my teaching. I specialise in GCSE Maths support, helping students build confidence in core topics such as algebra, geometry, statistics, and problem‑solving. My lessons are structured yet flexible: I begin with clear explanations and worked examples, then guide students through practice questions, encouraging them to explain their reasoning and develop individually tailored strategies. I place emphasis on exam technique, resilience under timed conditions, and connecting mathematical concepts to everyday applications. I use a patient and engaging style, which adapts to each student’s pace and learning preferences, breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps. I also integrate interactive tools and real‑world examples to make lessons dynamic and relevant. I aim to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and stretching their ability. My goal is not only to improve grades but to foster lasting confidence in mathematics as a skill that opens doors to wider opportunities.
