About Chris

I am an Afrikaans speaking professional Architect who loves to share my broad based knowledge with students on a part time basis. I assist students with achieving the requirements of the curriculum and taught numerous official Afrikaans classes at a school in Sandton. I have first-hand skills on how to address the issues that causes stress in pupils in order for them to build confidence in their ability to read and write the language in general and especially during exam times. I believe progress is best accelerated when the teaching atmosphere is relaxed, stimulating and fun.

About the lesson

Let's take the DAFF "drag and freaking fear" out of learning Afrikaans! Having taught at a top-end school - I make Afrikaans a breeze to learn. You will enjoy my methods and thus progress fast as the the atmosphere is relaxed yet focused.

STEP 1: Bring your immediate and specific concerns and we will address them together - on the spot! Should you need help with assignments ... why not simply ace them while you are about it!

STEP 2: I will help you to understand the STOMPI-principle - which will enable you to properly structure sentences in the Past-, Present- and Future Tenses ... it's actually sooo easy when you get a grip on it ... so let me show you how!

STEP 3: Reviewing assignments and tests/exams (as well as old exam papers) usually addresses the immediate concerns you may have ... often a good place to start.

STEP 4: In addition .... a basic vocab list can be reviewed, updated and learnt if required. More complex words can later be added as you progress in your quest to conquer.

STEP 5: Further ... reading together from simple stories or articles (or from curriculum pre-scribed books} helps with the pronunciation of words and understanding their meaning and context.

STEP 6: An eventual basic Afrikaans discussion between us will accelerate the learning process. Experience has also taught the value of allowing time for Q and A sessions at the end of each lecture ... you will truly grow to love Afrikaans!
