About Charlotte
I am an experienced former secondary school music teacher and head of department and I am currently expanding my individual teaching on Superprof alongside studying for a master’s degree in music therapy. I hold a PGCE and have over 13 years teaching experience in both state and private schools. During this time, I taught many pupils ABRSM theory from grades 1-6. I myself have passed Grade 8 theory. I have a music degree from The University of Manchester where classical piano was my first instrument. I also play the violin and trumpet and sing in a choir. I hold an up-to-date enhanced DBS certificate and I am registered on the Online Update Service.
I also teach piano, violin and tutor for GCSE music, all adverts are on Superprof.

I teach music theory from beginner to grade 5 mainly online but also in person if need be in West Bridgford and surrounding areas. Music theory can sometimes be a daunting prospect, especially for students taking grade 5 in order to progress to higher practical grades. However, I don’t think it needs to be; if students understand the concepts they are learning about, they can start to make links between topics and this makes the learning process much more enjoyable. I often encourage students to bring their instruments to the lessons so they can ‘play’ the theory to make it relevant. By doing this, theory and practical music making go hand in hand and support each other.
I think it is important students enjoy their lessons and leave with a feeling of achievement. Well structured lessons that adapt to the student's needs are important to me. I also aim to be approachable, kind and patient.
I teach either 30, 45 or 60 minute lessons depending on what is best for the student. I teach during the week, in the daytime and evening.
