About Ben
I am a student at the University of Sheffield, having just completed my second year studying Economics and Modern Languages. Through my experience working at a top international school in Switzerland—as both a teaching assistant and a boarding house assistant—where I supported pupils one-to-one as well as planned and delivered lessons, I have seen first-hand the impact that passionate, pupil-tailored teaching can have. I speak six languages to varying degrees of fluency. Apart from my mother tongue, English, I learnt all of them either in an academic setting or independently. This has given me a clear understanding of the challenges faced by non-native learners, as I have encountered many of the same difficulties myself. During my time in Switzerland, I also lived with a French-speaking family for four months, where I taught English to their eldest son.

I offer tutoring in Spanish (up to A-Level), German (up to GCSE), and Mathematics (up to GCSE), with lessons tailored to each student’s individual needs. As I am currently living abroad, I provide online lessons in one-hour slots. While the structure of each session depends on what the student needs to focus on, I generally like to introduce new concepts at the beginning of the lesson, when concentration is at its highest. We then move on to conversation practice or written tasks that reinforce the material covered earlier. I am also happy to mark longer written assignments outside of lesson time, providing personalised feedback at the start of the next session so that the full hour can be devoted to active learning.
