About Bernadine
I am a university student (23) and have been playing the piano for 19 years. I have completed the AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) exams Level 1 (Preliminary to Grade 4) and Level 2 (5 & 6) Certificate of Performance. I have utilised my skill my performing for many recitals, school performances and church. I took private piano lessons for 10 years and have gained knowledge on various teaching methods providing the tools, skills and confidence to help my students succeed.

I teach methods for students to familiarise themselves with the keyboard and notes on the stave. Once they are fully memorised I teach basic music theory in level graded books to learning simple piano pieces. It is important to know create a relationship with your student by getting to know each other, allowing them to feel comfortable in a teacher - centred environment. Playing the piano can be intimidating, therefore it is vital for the student to feel relaxed so they may know that it is okay to make mistakes and to take information and their own pace when learning a new skill. When approaching teaching methodology for students who have little or no experience in piano playing, it is essential to execute simplified explanations. I personally like to teach acronyms, as it is an easy way to remember the principles when learning basic keys of the piano. As the student progresses , I will provide simple songs for them to learn and will set goals at the end of each lesson for them to report back on their lesson.
