The TUNOG Approach is an educational reading intervention plan that I designed in the Philippines to equip young pupils with the necessary skills to improve their reading abilities. It focuses on teaching correct single sounds and blending them into syllables and words. This approach in teaching reading and provides materials that start with letter sounds rather than names, using engaging stories to signify each sound. Overall, it serves as a structured method for pupils to gradually learn the basics of reading.
My typical lesson plan is composed of the following:
I. Introduction (5 minutes)
Motivation: Show flashcards with pictures (e.g., mat, sip, map, sit, mop). Ask: “What do you see?”
Purpose: Explain that today they will learn to read words using the sounds they already know.
II. Presentation (10 minutes)
Pupils listen to a short story
Review letter sounds: m, s, a, i, o (using big letter cards).
Teacher models blending:
m + a = ma
ma + p = map
Repeat with other examples: sip, mop, sit, mat.
III. Guided Practice (10 minutes)
Pupils read words from the board together.
Play a “word train” game: each child reads one word and passes the turn.
Match word cards to picture cards in pairs.
IV. Independent Practice (10 minutes)
Pupils complete a worksheet:
Read the word.
Circle the matching picture.
Trace and write the word.
V. Closing & Assessment (5 minutes)
Quick oral quiz: Teacher shows a word card, pupils read aloud.
Praise effort and improvement.
Assign short reading practice at home.

Ms. Raquel Joy is not just legitimate but an excellent teacher in our country.
She deserves a high recommendation to which these purpose may serve.I Highly recommended Teacher for her Passion and dedication for teaching.
I had the privilege of working with ma'am Raquel at RCES as her co-teacher, and later we both became Grade 1 teachers. Through our years of working together, I saw her dedication, patience, and passion for teaching young learners.
What I appreciate most about her teaching is her ability to make lessons engaging and meaningful for children. She is very patient and supportive, helping students build strong learning foundations.
We also worked closely when she served as my chairman during our time in Kindergarten, where I witnessed her leadership and teamwork. Aside from teaching, she is also the Drum and Lyre Corps Coordinator, showing her commitment to developing students beyond the classroom.
Ma'am Raquel is a dedicated and inspiring educator whom I highly recommend to students and parents.Ms. Raquel Joy is a great teacher, I am her student when I was on grade 1 and she inspired me a lot. She always thought us to be kind and to embodied empathy. She always share what is in her to us just like my classmate who is less fortunate to have a food for break and she always give a money for my classmate. Also when she has chocolates she always give us. I loved her and missed her so much.
