I follow Richard Feynman's method of 'teach to learn' and I would first instill a sense of confidence in the student because negativity in their answers makes them feel as though they are incompetent which would make their performance worse.
So I would simply make the student see the topic as something easy because the student probably tells themselves it is hard which would hinder their understand; so I aim to remove that damaging thought process.
Following that, I would let the student teach me how they view the topic instead of me instilling my thoughts into their minds. That way I would be able to give information in a way that they can digest better, leading to a better understanding.
Ever since I was younger, I always used to be teaching my younger brothers in my strongest topics which are math and physics and they were always engaged due to my patience and speaking abilities when explaining.
There is a massive ability within me to also isolate issues in an understanding which helps the student much more efficiently.
