English

Traditional grammar is notional and easy to understand but it does not cover all aspects of word class. For example if we are to define a noun as a name of any person, animal, place or thing, it is only right for us to consider pink, which is the name of a color, as a noun, but instead it is regarded as an adjective. Now thanks to modern grammar we have now come to understand that the only way we can determine the classes of a word is how the word is used in a sentence. We would be using the word round as an example in this case:
The woman wore "round" glasses (adjectives)
We sat "round" the table for lunch (preposition)
Serena won all the "rounds" (noun)
A plate of kolanut was handed "round" (adverb)
With the examples above we can see that the word "round" was used in different sentences giving it different word classes.
Although this definition is better than the traditional definition, it still doesn't quite give a reasonable definition to all aspects of language. Trust me I can teach you all these and more and make you fully understand
