About Claire

I came to Suzuki first as a student, then as a parent, and now as a teacher — which means I understand this method from every angle. I’ve seen what it looks like to grow up inside this philosophy, to trust your child to it, and to carry it forward into a studio of your own. I teach because I believe the “every child can” foundation is true, and because music made from genuine feeling rather than obligation is worth fighting for. I’m still a student myself — currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium — because I think that matters too.

About the lesson

I’ve been part of the Suzuki world since I was five years old — first as a student, now as a teacher and performing musician. I teach violin and viola from my studio in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, and have been part of this community for over ten years. My teaching is rooted in Suzuki philosophy but goes beyond repertoire — I care about tone, expression, sight reading, and making sure every student feels genuine agency in their own learning. I’m currently completing a Graduate Diploma in Performance at the Melbourne Conservatorium. The Suzuki approach works best when families are involved, and I love that aspect of my teaching — parents and carers are welcome and encouraged to be part of the lesson, especially with younger students. If you’re curious, come and observe a lesson. That’s the best way to know if we’re a good fit.
