About Essence

Essence is a classically trained violinist who has been playing since the age of twelve. Throughout her time of playing violin, she has participated and performed in several orchestras including The St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra, Young People’s Symphonic Orchestra at Webster University’s Community Music School and the Saint Louis University Symphony Orchestra. Essence has also had many opportunities to collaborate with established artists, such as multiple Grammy Award winner Michael McDonald and Grammy-nominated duo Black Violin. She has also had opportunities to work with soul singer, Brian Owens and upcoming artist, Malena Smith. In addition, she has had opportunities to receive instruction from and perform among several St. Louis Symphony Orchestra musicians and members of the Arianna String Quartet. Essence currently teaches for Gateway Music Outreach, a non-profit organization bringing music to underserved communities.

About the lesson

As a violin teacher, my number one goal is for students to enjoy playing violin and help them meet their own personal goals. This is why my teaching is highly individualized for each student. No two lessons will ever be the same! By taking a personalized approach, I am able to meet the needs of each student and help them learn in a way that is best for them. A typical lesson plan includes: *warmup exercises such as scales and stretching (to prevent any playing injuries and relax the wrists and fingers), *an etude for technical practice, *and a solo/orchestral piece For beginning students, lessons will mostly focus on violin setup, music theory, note identification, and beginner tunes.
