About Angus

Hi, my name is Angus and I study the Bachelor of Performing arts At WAAPA. I worked as a tutor for the Department of Education at John Curtin College of the Arts in Fremantle from July 2021 to November of last year, teaching weekly after school drama lessons.

I Graduated from John Curtin college in 2020, with an ATAR score of 97.35. My subjects studied were Drama GAT ATAR, English Literature, Mathematics Methods, Mathematics Specialist, and Physics ATAR.

I am passionate about performance, writing and Literature, and enjoy tutoring these subjects. I have been tutoring for almost three years now, privately and otherwise. I enjoy helping others in their academic pursuits and particularly love teaching the arts. My hobbies include creative writing, performing, and making art.

I have been doing projects in and engaging with the Perth Theatre industry since graduating from high school in 2020. in 2021 I studied the Diploma of screen and media (film and TV) at TAFE, and have been working in theatre here and there since then. My industry experience has been performance based, including several roving theatre productions, and has also included some lighting design work.

About the lesson

A typical lesson structure will start with going over the student's in class work. There is then a heavy focus on the student's curriculum requirements and upcoming assignments, followed by a shorter period of skill-building. This is my usual approach to tutoring, but I am very flexible to different student's learning needs, and am happy to adapt the lessons to suit.

Lessons will often be either practical or written focused. The Drama ATAR curriculum demands proficiency in both arenas, so spending at least an hour on either is recommended. This can mean that the Student can alternate between practical and written from lesson to lesson, or If the student is confident in either their writing or practical skills, as is often the case, lessons can be more specifically tailored to one over the other.

As part of my tutoring work with John Curtin College of the Arts, I taught Script-writing, improvisation, and acting skills. So in private lessons, I can assist with building creative writing skills as well as essay, analytical and communication skills, which are imperative skills for both Drama and English.

My capabilities expand beyond the scope of the Drama ATAR and Drama GAT curriculums, so if your child is passionate about performance or writing in an outside of school context and is looking to develop these skills, I am able to tutor them in Improvisational theatre, script-writing, and can assist in readying material for auditions and performances.
