About Oscar
I'm a second generation Blues musician originally from the US. I've been playing blues professionally since I was 16 and have moved to Melbourne to pursue my career. While I lived in New Zealand, my former home, I played with the leading blues artists of the scene there and have recorded multiple albums and played festivals, pubs, clubs, cafes and any other venue you might think of. I learned this music through listening and through hard practice, both at home and on the band stand. It brings me a lot of joy to share what I know about the Blues and to share my love and respect for its tradition.

I offer a deep and nuanced understanding of Blues - its history, its traditions and yes, the music! In our lessons I can show you guitar idioms, licks and techniques from a range of styles and eras of the blues and, more importantly, show you how to use them. In a session, we would typically begin withe either you bringing something you wanted to learn, or with me suggesting a topic.I would show you how to play the song, lick, figure, then we would discuss when and how to use it. At the end of the session, we would finish with a jam to explore using what you learned in a live setting. Each lesson customised for each student and all skill levels are welcome.
