About Ekin

I am a third-year MMath Mathematics student at the University of Warwick, averaging approximately 77% across my first two years. I achieved A*s in both A-level Mathematics and Further Mathematics, scoring over 90% across the papers, alongside As in Physics and Computer Science.

In the 2022 university admissions cycle, I scored 70/100 in MAT and 6.9 in TMUA. I was interviewed by Cambridge and received offers from Imperial College London, UCL, Durham and Warwick. This experience taught me the importance of months-long preparation for competitive admissions and regular interview practice.

I have worked as a tutor and mathematics mentor since 2022. I currently help students preparing for TMUA and pre-university level problem solving through We Solve Problems at Warwick. I have also completed the STEP Support Programme, and worked through STEP problems since 2021.

My previous students include a GCSE student who improved from grade 5 to grade 7 and later progressed to university to study Architecture, and an A-level student who achieved A and A* grades before beginning an Engineering degree at Southampton. I also supported my brother in achieving an A* in A-level Mathematics before he began studying Medicine at Bristol.

I hold a current DBS check and relevant safeguarding qualifications. I teach primarily in English but can also support students in Turkish.

My online, one-to-one lessons are designed for GCSE Maths, Further Maths and Additional Maths students; A-level Maths students studying pure mathematics, mechanics and statistics; Further Maths students studying Core Pure, Further Pure, Statistics or Decision Mathematics; and ambitious university applicants preparing for TMUA, STEP, Senior Maths Challenge/Kangaroo and mathematics interviews.

The first lesson is free and focuses on understanding the student rather than immediately teaching content. We will discuss their current level, goals, upcoming exams, working habits and what they want from tutoring. I will then provide a diagnostic paper and use the results to create a personalised roadmap.

Subsequent lessons will be 60-90 minutes. We begin with a short progress debrief before working through concepts from first principles. I help students by giving them guiding questions, employing "Socratic" style of teaching; all of these are valuable and highly employable skills.

I aim to be more than a once-a-week tutor. I act as an academic coach. Depending on the student’s ambitions, I can provide daily practice tasks, marked homework, lesson notes, annotated solutions, curated question packs and a progress tracker showing exactly what has been completed and what remains.

For TMUA and STEP preparation, I combine official papers with a carefully organised question bank drawing upon STEP Foundation material, Siklos’ Advanced Problems in Mathematics, UKMT and AMC problems, and selected legacy MAT questions, various Senior Maths Challenge Problems. Timed mock examinations include marking, detailed feedback and a targeted improvement plan.

Interview sessions simulate a real mathematical discussion. Students practise thinking aloud, responding constructively to hints and engaging with unfamiliar problems.

Lessons are delivered through Teams or Zoom using a digital whiteboard, graphics tablet and shared documents. Students may also send difficult questions or schoolwork before lessons so that our time is used effectively.
