About Kyra
I am a college freshman this fall and am taking remote classes at this time. I am available to tutor on the weekends. I started learning piano at the age of 7 and since then have learned to pick up playing classical guitar, and cello as well. I love working with children and have three younger siblings myself who I have helped with their piano skills when they were struggling a bit or were looking for advice.

My teaching method is to start with basic rhythms, sight reading, and scales. Scales are very important as they help to strengthen the fingers and are the basis to learning piano repertoire. I recommend that students practice for 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on their level and for at least 3 times a week to maximize progress and to work closer towards perfection. As I have experienced with teachers before, it is way more effective to hear the students play first than to play for them, in order to effectively evaluate what needs to be worked on. Furthermore, many kids like to play and learn pieces at a faster pace because they think it’s so cool which I understand, but, I believe it’s “cooler” to start learning the piece slower which will help to ensure accuracy and precision of notes which will sound even “cooler” when played up to tempo. Not only will precision be better but it will aid in better memorization of pieces which is always a plus. If students get frustrated because they feel like they’re stuck on one part of a piece I recommend to move on to another section and revisit the section they had difficulty with. Playing the piano should be intriguing and fun, we don’t want to cause distress which may discourage students from learning! :)))
