About Shon
I started teaching chess in high school as a one-on-one tutor since high school, on and off based on students’ availability and interest in chess at the time. I work with a local organization called “Yalla Chess” to teach chess classes with up to 10 kids in one class, so I’ve stepped up to different ways of teaching. I've been a chess player for quite a while, so I'm someone who is familiar with the challenges of chess, both psychological and over-the-board of trying to improve and overcome loss and failure. I can help students navigate through the world of chess and hopefully deepen your love of chess and strength as a chess player. Among my accomplishments and goals in my 11 years of chess are: 1) being the captain of York University’s chess team at the 2023 Canadian University Chess Championship. 2) Winning regional rapid and blitz tournaments.

3) new lesson + example game (or one of my students’ games I go over)

I teach students whether they are complete beginners, just want to have fun with chess, or take it on more seriously/competitively and play in tournaments.
