About Charlie

I'm a 17-year-old year 12 student who has played guitar for 9 years now. I have completed a certificate III in VET music performance and am currently completing my cert III in VET sound production, both of which at Box Hill Institute. I'm also completing music performance as a year 12 subject, in which I'm playing a variety of both classical, soft and hard rock songs on guitar. This gives me a wider array of knowledge in both theory, and also technique on the instrument. I have experience in both recording guitar and other instruments and performing in various settings, and am experienced in a variety of genres on both electric (mainly) and acoustic. I also have wide knowledge in music theory, both away from the guitar but also applicable to it. I have experience in playing with a wide variety of other players, whether other students of a lower, similar and higher level as well as professionals in performance settings.

About the lesson

From my experience as a player, I feel that it is important to make learning guitar as a beginner as enjoyable as possible. The first few lessons would be focused on the fundamentals that form a foundation for their playing, like basic notes on each string and how to form chords, etc. After the first few lessons, dependent on where they are in progress, I would show them a basic chord structure or a famous song using some of the things taught by that stage. From there I would see where they are in progress and continue teaching more fundamentals of playing. For more intermediate students who are still finding their way around the instrument, I would use a similar method of referring to things like famous songs using the techniques learned. Lessons would most likely be 30 minutes in length. While I don't carry experience as a tutor, I feel my experience as a player gives me an understanding of what is important in the beginning stages of learning, and that a sense of enjoyment from it can also act as a motivator to practice and continue to learn. My lessons would be for beginner/early intermediate students who are of a younger age (basically don't give me a 17-year-old beginner). I have more flexibility over times on the weekend, but generally less on weekdays - available after 4:45 on Monday and Tuesday, after 6:00 on Wednesday, after 5:30 on Thursday and after 4:00 on a Friday.
