About Charles
I've been playing classical piano for the last decade, learning the fundamentals of the classics from the ground up. I've been involved in dozens of recitals and professional shows, as well as performing as the pianist of a jazz trio. I've had the opportunity to start from the basics and make my way to pieces like Chopin's Op. 10 No. 5, Gershwin's Prelude No. 1, and Schumann's Aufschwung. Piano is a delight! I really desire to instill that same love of music that I learned into my students. Through the (sometimes arduous) process of learning the fundamentals of piano, my hope is that, with my help, my students will persevere through the process of the basics and see the beauty of the outcome.

I use engaging methods to teach young students the fundamentals of classical piano, using an approach of teaching with the student rather than at them.
A typical lesson will include:
- Warmup
- Beginning piano theory / technique
- Learning the musical staff / sight reading
- A shake break (for younger students or those that have some trouble paying attention)
- Working together on selections from beginner courses
My preferred early classical curriculum is Faber & Faber, but I am open to whatever you are looking for.
My area of expertise is beginning students looking to start with a strong understanding of fundamental piano concepts. My lessons will leave students with a knowledge of theory, the musical staff, technique, and the ability to start learning and playing pieces on their own.
