About Alex

My name is Alex, I'm 26 and my professional background is healthcare, but I’m a pianist and trumpeter with over 15 years of experience playing music. Music has been a huge part of my life for many years, and through playing both instruments (and many more) I’ve developed a strong appreciation for not only performance, but also for the structure and theory behind music.

I decided to start teaching because I genuinely enjoy helping people discover music and develop their abilities. Learning an instrument can feel difficult at times, especially at the beginning, and I want my students to feel supported and encouraged while they build their confidence. Seeing someone progress from their first few notes to playing full pieces is one of the most rewarding parts of teaching.

As a teacher, my goal is to create lessons that are patient, encouraging, and tailored to each student. Everyone learns differently, so I aim to adapt my teaching style to match the individual, whether that means focusing more on technique, theory, repertoire, or simply building confidence with the instrument.

I teach piano, trumpet, and music theory, and I enjoy working with students of all ages up to intermediate musicians. Some students come to lessons because they want to work towards exams, while others simply want to learn for their own enjoyment, and both approaches are equally welcome.

For me, music is not just about playing the right notes. It’s about creativity, expression, and developing a lifelong skill that can bring enjoyment to you and those around you for many years. My aim is to help students build strong foundations while also discovering the enjoyment that comes with making music.

My lessons are designed to be supportive, structured, and enjoyable, helping students develop strong musical skills while building confidence and creativity. I teach piano, trumpet, and music theory, and lessons are tailored to each individual student’s goals, experience level, and learning style.

With over 15 years of experience as both a pianist and trumpeter, I aim to combine solid technical foundations with engaging musical exploration. Whether a student wants to learn for enjoyment, improve their technique, or deepen their understanding of music, lessons are adapted to suit their ambitions.

Teaching Methodology

My teaching approach focuses on three key areas: technique, understanding, and musical expression.

Students will work on:

Instrumental technique – developing proper posture, hand position, breath control (for trumpet), tone production, articulation, and finger technique.

Musicality – phrasing, dynamics, interpretation, and expressive playing.

Reading and theory – sight-reading, rhythm training, scales, harmony, and musical structure.

Practice skills – learning how to practice effectively and independently between lessons.

For piano students, lessons focus on learning the layout of the keyboard, correct hand position, reading and understanding notation, simple rhythms, and playing simple melodies. Students will gradually be introduced to basic scales, simple exercises, and beginner pieces to build confidence and strong foundations.

For trumpet students, lessons focus on tone production, breath support, articulation, flexibility, range development, and building confidence across different musical styles.

Music theory lessons can support instrumental study or be taught independently, covering topics such as notation, harmony, and composition basics.

Lessons are always adapted to the student’s pace, ensuring progress while keeping learning motivating and enjoyable.

Typical lesson lengths are:

Personally I would recommend no less than 1 hour lessons, but inquiries available of course if a shorter lesson is more suitable.

Who My Lessons Are For

- Beginners starting their musical journey

- Students preparing for graded exams (Trumpet grade 1 - 4)

- Piano lessons will be for beginners.

- Trumpet lessons will be for beginner - late intermediate players.

- Adults returning to music after a break

- Anyone interested in learning music theory of any level

I teach children, teenagers, and adults, and lessons are always adjusted to match the student’s goals and learning style.

My aim is to help every student develop both technical ability and a genuine enjoyment of music, creating skills that allow them to continue progressing independently.
