About Dorcas
I have a B.S. in Mass Communication from Boston University. I am a native Spanish speaker, completely fluent in both oral and written communication, thereby testing out of the foreign language requirement. In addition, as an undergraduate on the pre-medical pathway to medicine, I successfully completed three years of pre-med course studies in the School of Arts & Sciences which included required math courses leading up to advanced calculus and one year each of chemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry. As a Senior in College, I took an internship as a fluke at a fashion company and stumbled onto my passion. My ease with numbers and unique math skills opened the doors to 10 successful years of a professional career in Production and Product Development in the fashion industry, which relies heavily on the costing and pricing of raw materials and their finished goods. As a mother of two boys, I applied my education and professional experience managing schedules and people to homeschooling, as well as 8 years of in-classroom volunteer experience at the elementary school level (K-8) assisting students with the new core curriculum in math and reading (reading workshop).

My approach to teaching is visual with hands-on activities for both math and Spanish, especially for K-5. I find that most students learn better with visual models and tactile activities. I also incorporate technology and online games to help motivate and teach students.

Details
There is a $5 additional cost for travel to your home for one-to-one tutoring. However, reduced pricing is available for pods of two students at a time at a rate of $20/hr per student and travel fee would be waived.
