About Jon

I started playing when I was 12 years old and was playing gigs at the age of 13 with my 3 brothers. I have, over the years, played in lots of different bands and situations. I have played in rock, blues, jazz, funk, metal bands playing all sorts of instruments. I have played in theatre orchestras, completed session work for artists, recorded and produced CDs and streaming music for others in my recording studio. I have composed a series of music CDs for horses and dressage that are available to purchase. I have composed 300+ songs of original music ranging from metal to funk to classical to jazz to acoustic etc. Some of my students have gone on to greater things, including the Royal College of Music and as performing musicians in up and coming bands. I also provide support to individuals who compose their own music, offering suggestions on arrangement and often playing and recording many of the instruments involved in their music. I have a number of international students fully utilising the Zoom platform. I teach students in Canada, New Zealand and now France. I have always loved everything about music and how important it is in our lives. In my lessons I strive to communicate my passion for learning and playing music. I am always learning and keep myself versed in contemporary styles of music. I absolutely love all types of music so long as it is played well and with conviction. I have a very relaxed but structured approach to my teaching and provide a comprehensive contact service outside of my lessons if you require support with anything musical. I have a formal teaching qualification, a Master's Degree and I am registered with the Registry of Guitarists. I am currently playing in a band which requires me to play electric guitar, acoustic guitar, bass guitar, alto and tenor sax (not all at the same time of course!!!) I hope to meet you in my lessons. About the lesson

My lessons are friendly and structured to suit your learning needs. I will improve your skills and knowledge in music and you will be able to apply that to your instrument. My primary teaching method is to use songs or musical genres that you have chosen to play (and some of my choosing too) and show you how to play them and show you how to work songs out for yourself. My aim is for you to enjoy music and become passionate about playing your instrument. I can provide support for RockSchool grades if needed. I provide (at no cost) out of hours support for any questions you may have. I also provide equipment buying advice. My lessons are 40 minutes long. I teach people of all ages and abilities. I have a formal Teaching Certificate and a Master's degree in Organisational Communication. I worked for 30 years in services for people with learning difficulties and developed a wide range of alternative and creative teaching techniques.
