About Marie
As a professionally trained and accomplished pianist, and having performed publicly in different genres of music, my greatest joy is still the wonder of music itself and how it enriches my life.
Being a teacher with years of experience, I can cultivate this love and appreciation of music in my students. They will experience the joy and satisfaction of playing a musical instrument, and enrich their lives in the process.
I come from a family of professionally qualified music teachers: My Grandmother, Mother, Father and Aunt.
At the age of four I started with piano lessons, with my father as my teacher. He taught me until I went to study music at the University of the Free State, where I took piano lessons under the acclaimed pianist and lecturer, Professor Japie Human.
I completed my BMus (cum laude), B Mus Hons (cum laude) and a Higher Education Diploma at Unisa.
With over 30 years of teaching experience, I have taught students of all ages, from beginners to advance in different genres of music: Classical (TCL and ABRSM exams), popular music and theory of music.

The lessons can be goal driven, for example exams, or they can be at your own pace, in a relaxed atmosphere. My teaching style can be adjusted to accommodate different curriculums and your own musical choices: from classical to popular music, jazz or theory of music.
I can work with young children, as well as adults of all ages. I am structured and patient in my teaching style and will adjust to the unique needs and personality of every student.
My main goal in teaching music is for you to develop a love for music that will last a lifetime.
