About Hillary
"Teaching myself via cassette tapes initially fueled the curiosity that eventually led me toward earning a BMus Jazz Guitar from the University of North Texas. That foundation, combined with 13 years of experience, allows me to bridge the gap between structured academic theory and raw, self-taught intuition. I emphasize essential techniques including fingerpicking, scales and modes, ear training, blues progressions, and barre chords to keep your progress moving steadily forward.
Are you ready to see how these elements combine in your own playing? My approach avoids rigid dogma by favoring a hands-on, honest exploration of the instrument that mirrors the styles of Holdsworth, Metheny, and Scofield. I utilize my formal training to explain complex musical concepts in ways that remain accessible for any dedicated student. Does your current practice routine feel like it is actually serving your creative goals?"

"Getting better at the guitar should feel like an adventurous creative outlet rather than a chore. Constant engagement with the instrument is the primary driver of rapid improvement.
By focusing on your specific interests, I ensure that the material remains relevant to the music you enjoy listening to during your spare time. You will receive free chord charts and tab sheets shared after each class to reinforce what we covered during our time together.
Technique drills become musical when integrated into actual songs and blues progressions instead of isolated exercises. We spend time on ear training to improve your ability to internalize sounds you hear on recordings.
Barre chords and fingerpicking patterns form the bedrock of our work together. These sessions prioritize a practical, direct method that aims to keep your hands busy and your mind sharp. I promise to keep the tone light and focused on genuine musical growth rather than hollow theory."
