I originally came to Superprof looking for 1-to-1 Italian lessons. My partner is from Italy, and I was about to meet her family for the first time — I really wanted to be able to try and speak to them in their own language.

I found Anca through an online recommendation, and I haven’t been disappointed. Learning anything new is tough, and I’m someone who likes to be good at things straight away and hates feeling embarrassed when I get something wrong. Naturally, in the beginning, I messed up some pronunciations, used the wrong words, and flipped sentences around — but not once did I feel awkward or judged.

Anca has helped me improve my Italian loads. I was at a lower/intermediate level and still make a lot of mistakes in my vocabulary and grammar. She corrects me and helps me improve in a kind way that has never made me feel judged nor embarrassed! She has also been great and teaching me both formal but also colloquial Italian that will better serve me in my day-to-day (if I were to move to Italy, one day!)

Her approach has generally been scenario-based, helping me practice under various situations and roles (e.g. restaurants, when travelling, in the kitchen, or just talking about the day and our lives), which has helped me retain information a lot better than pure memory-based approaches.
