About Kris

I am a graduate in Law at undergraduate and masters level. I am hoping to move onto a PhD when time allows. I am an author, and my work can be found on Amazon. I have tutored privately for four years, with four clients, these range from a single session to ongoing support. My areas of expertise are computer law, legal philosophy and criminal law. I have a keen interest in academic research also.

About the lesson

Understanding the Law requires a strong initial study of the structure of the Legal System under scrutiny. I begin by examining where law can be found, looking at the different sources of Legislation, Byelaws and Common Law (among others). I will also examine the differences between these. Once the student is aware of how to find relevant law, I will then move onto statutory interpretation and how the context of the law is important. Beyond this, the student will also be taught how to structure legal writing, and how to cite the sources they find in an OSCOLA format. This is essential for any academic studies the student may engage with on the subject. Alongside the core skills above, the teaching will take a direction depending on the specific requirements of the student. However, a firm understanding of the core subjects is also the foundation for any self-directed studies that the student may decide to engage in independently.

Quite literally every time we see each other, our time together will range from him educating me on WW2 trivia to prospective AI advancements. I can honestly say with no bias that he is a well-versed, patient teacher who if you choose to donate your time to, will reap the benefits from his teaching. He will make sure not to belittle you if you are somewhat uneducated on the subject which I personally believe to be the most imperative virtue of a teacher and can break down topics down into digestible pieces of information. I was so impressed with the vast amount of knowledge Kris has across so many areas, but especially regarding Law. His structured essay writing and ability to view an argument from all sides amazed me and were key to me developing my essays to get those higher grades and thinking much deeper about what the question is really looking for.
