About Serena

I began with a BA (2:1) degree in Economics&Accounting

Then, I received grades A (USA - over 90%) in Biology and Chemistry courses taught by Ivy League Professors.
And completed other graded university-level courses like nutrition, genetics, biopsych, cognitive psychology, and developmental psych.

I completed 1 semester of medical school in the EU which focused on cellular and molecular biology and chemistry, anatomy and medical physics.

I have also sat Cambridge’s international A-Level Biology & Chemistry exams myself so have first-hand experience.

I’ve been attending plenty of bio-science/medical conferences in the past few years so am very active in keeping up academically with this field that I am so passionate about!

I also just completed an Access to higher diploma (Level 3) that focused on biology (mainly), physics and psychology — which was actually really interesting as it touched on a lot of material not covered in A-Level & thus gave me further depth in these fields

Teaching wise —
I have also tutored this specific material previously as well as experience with tutoring English to a variety of students. Being an older student, I have also the experience of supervising others professionally at work.

About the lesson

I understand that some of the largest difficulties with learning Biology is parsing through the large wades of information and not confusing similar terms & ideas for each other.

It’s crucial to be taught the correct concepts and terminology to ensure a strong foundational knowledge or it will be confusing as you learn more advanced information as you go along. It will just get confusing if your foundation is not strong (generally introduced during GCSE & As Level) - one can say this about Accounting as well as Economics.

For A levels, arguably, the most difficult issue is probably memorising everything within a short amount of time. It is only easy to remember if the concepts are crystal clear.

This is achieved if we know the ‘why’ does this or this concept matter and also, how does it relate to the rest of the curriculum, and also, the world? There is a story in each subject and it needs to be told properly and in order. You don’t generally start from the middle of a film and go backwards if you want the path of least resistance.

How many times have we been taught something, only to figure out later, that it would have made more sense if it was taught a different way or introduced in a different order? I attempt to firstly introduce the main points so that you can always see where you are going rather than stumbling in the dark.
