I am of Samoan descent and was born and raised in NZ.
Having the gift of dance in my family/culture is no surprise to our community; and now having this knowledge, I would love to share it with others.
For the first few lessons we will go through the basic motions of Hula - repeatedly so you know it even with your eyes closed :)
Teaching in different ages really does help and all I require for you to bring is a great attitude and your own sarong (wrap around) and nothing too loose or tight underneath as to not get too sweaty but feel comfortable.
Also barefoot is a thing in the Islands, we don’t dance with shoes on lol
Although Hula is complex, I am very patient and will go over motions with you repeatedly to see you succeed!
I have trained, practiced and taught in Hula for 15yrs; young and old and it’s always a joy seeing people flourish and share in the Aloha spirit
I've known Naomi for the seven years she was my dance instructor. She has lots of experience with teaching and choreographing for children and adults. Her love and passion for dance, culture, authenticity, and excellence bring her to the forefront. If you make the effort, she will fight for you and you will succeed. It was an honor to study under her.
Naomi is patient, fun, talented, and great with any age or dance level. She has a lot of teaching experience and has danced professionally. Her classes are great and I would highly recommend them!
I know Naomi from serving with her in YWAM in Canada. She's very kind, easy-going, patient, graceful, caring, encouraging, reliable, responsible, loves pushing people to help them see their potential and is passionate about what she does. She teaches using hands-on/visual demonstration which can be very helpful to students as it was to me. I highly recommend Naomi!
Naomi showed great patience while teaching me to dance. When I would lose faith that I could ever get better she would still maintain a confidence in my ability to learn. She would sit down with me and she would help me write down each move in a way I could understand it. I have a new appreciation for hula because of how passionate and beautifully she danced. She taught with grace and wisdom. She was and is an amazing teacher, and I'm so grateful that I could learn from her.
I’ve had the privilege of having Naomi as my daughter’s dance teacher. She is organized, personable and wonderful at what she does. Not only is she great at teaching children, she has a gift of teaching adults with little to no background of hula and making them into fabulous performers!
I’ve seen Naomi perform on many occasions over the years. Her love of dancing shines through each performance with a joy that is evidently passed on through her students.
I would highly recommend jumping at the opportunity to try out her classes!
She’s is an amazing choreographer, graceful dancer, very humble and joyful, encouraging, easy to talk to,very creative, she’s fun and loving and very beautiful,
I know Naomi through Island Breeze Manitoba. She was my dance teacher and an amazing friend and colleague.
Naomi is passionate about what she does and she works so hard to be an amazing dance teacher. When she teaches, you can see the joy and happiness it brings her when she sees her students thriving. Learning from Naomi is so easy because she explains what each dance movement means and the story behind it. It makes learning dance so much more exciting and interesting.
If there is a student that is struggling she will take the time to work with them and to break down the steps so that not only are you learning how to properly execute the movements properly, you learn without developing any bad habits or "shortcuts".
The reason why I would recommend Naomi as a teacher is because she is immersive. She will be with you every step of the way as you continue to learn dance and thats what makes her an amazing teacher.
Naomi would make an amazing teacher because of her patience, kindness, and passion for Hula dance. She is one of the best dancers I’ve ever seen and had the privilege of being taught by. She not only will make you an amazing dancer, but she will also give you the meaning behind the dance moves you’re performing and their cultural significance which I think is what sets her apart. Naomi will quickly make hula dance your new favourite activity and help you in your love for dance. You would be in the best hands if you chose her to be your instructor.
Naomi is encouraging, talented and always pushes you to do your best. I had no previous dance experience and would not have thought that I could have learned to dance. Despite this Naomi was able to teach me the Hula Basics. She developed my coordination, timing and body awareness. She gave me enough skill and confidence to be able to dance in front of crowds and perform shows. Naomi is a great teacher for any looking to learn Hula for the first time or for people looking to develop there Hula skills.
Naomi is very trustworthy, She helped me understand hula a lot more, I first learned hula with Naomi! She will walk you through every small step, every hip move, and every little detail of a hula dance. Naomi is very patient with you, she was my first hula teacher and I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. Not confident in dancing? come to Naomi!!
