About Amelia
Hi! My name is Dr. Amelia Morris (Milly) and I am a Lecturer of Communications and Media Studies at the University of Exeter. I was funded by the Economic Social Research Council for my PhD in Political Science from the University of Birmingham, received a scholarship for my MA (First Class) in Gender and Media from the University of Sussex and I possess a BA in Political Science from the University of Birmingham (First Class). I am an expert in feminist and queer media theories, but I have published work across media and cultural studies, political science, sociology and human geography.
I have been teaching in universities for eleven years at various levels and have a wealth of experience with students, from college to postgraduate level, as well as delivering a number of workshops in schools. I have received extensive teacher training and, in 2022, I secured the status of Fellow in Advance HE. I have written and led modules in politics, sociology, research methods (including essay writing) and media studies. I supervise BA and MA student dissertations, as well as PhD researchers.
Outside of work, I love nothing more than running and hiking around beautiful Devon with my partner and dog, Teddy.

I have a friendly, engaging and empathetic approach. I understand the importance of explaining topics in accessible ways, as well as managing projects in a timely manner. I can help you structure arguments for essays, break down projects into manageable tasks, draw upon relevant sources and use proper referencing (for degree-level work).
I am flexible with how the lessons can be structured - you may wish to attend the session with an essay question, and together, we can work through the piece's structure. We can discuss theories and I will guide you on how to formulate an argument. Alternatively, you may be struggling with a particular concept - here, I can come to the lesson with tasks for making sense of this theory, or any readings you have difficulty with.
In 2024, I won a Teaching Award at the University of Exeter's Guild of Students Awards, reflecting the high quality of my approach to teaching.
