About Martin
Hello everyone!
My name is Martin Kocher, and I am originally from the United States. I tutor American English for academic and professional purposes. I speak German as my second language because my mom is German. I also speak a little Chinese.
I currently live in Dubai with my wife and step-daughter, and we manage multiple businesses. My academic background is in international business and finance, with work experience in investment banking. In partnerships with multiple universities, I've been involved in multiple academic research projects. My experience has taught me the importance of proper pronunciation and the value of knowing useful phrases for everyday life. Additionally, I manage a non-profit organization with my friend, focused on English language learning in rural Indonesia.
My hobbies include working out, reading about history, bike riding, and trying new dishes to cook. I'm proud to call the UAE my home and am actively learning Arabic... Assalamu Aleikum!

I've been teaching English on a regular basis since 2022, when I founded a non-profit organization teaching English in Indonesia. I also hold a short call teaching license in the US state of Minnesota, where I actively taught elementary school students from multiple nationalities. I've had the pleasure of working with multiple students, but my proudest achievement is teaching English to my eight-year-old step-daughter. My wife is from Spain, and when I first met her daughter, she knew no English. I quickly taught her the basics, and several months later, she is talking confidently with adults!
My approach to teaching is to focus on the key pronunciation skills and proper phrases used in everyday life. We first spend time getting to know each other and hearing the student talk. I take notes and listen carefully. The following sessions involve identifying key phrases and areas to improve on, focusing on pronunciation, spelling, and grammar. I firmly believe in building confidence early and having that momentum carry the learning process. I can assist any age and for any function. I have experience in academia and in formal business communication, specifically in American English.
