About Vivek

I grew up and studied engineering in India, completed a Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and later an Advanced Certificate in Data Science, then moved to Toronto for my Master of Professional Studies in Analytics at Northeastern, which I finished in June 2026 with a concentration in Statistical Modeling.

Most of what I know about explaining this work I learned on the job rather than in a classroom. In my most recent role as an analyst in the Ontario energy sector, a lot of the job was taking something technical, a financial model or a messy dataset, and making it clear enough for people who did not build it to make a decision from it. That turns out to be the same skill as teaching. If you cannot explain why a method is the right one, you do not understand it as well as you think you do.

I am patient with questions that people are embarrassed to ask, because I have asked most of them myself. I came to statistics from a computer science background and had to relearn things I thought I already knew. I also arrived in Canada as an international student and know what it is like to sit in a course where everyone else seems to have context you were never given.

Outside of tutoring I am building my own analytics career in Toronto, which means I am still using these tools weekly rather than teaching from memory. If I do not know something, I will say so and find out rather than bluff.

I am an Analytics master's graduate who spent my most recent role building the exact things I teach: automated Excel reporting with Power Query, financial models, Power BI dashboards used by senior leadership, and Python tools for pulling and processing data that spreadsheets could not handle. I teach these the way they are actually used at work, not as a feature tour.

For Excel, that means advanced formulas, pivot tables, data cleaning and validation, and Power Query for reports that refresh themselves instead of being rebuilt by hand every month. For Power BI, it means connecting and shaping messy source data, building a model that will not break, and designing dashboards a non-technical audience can read and filter on their own. For Python, it means the analyst's toolkit rather than software engineering: pandas and NumPy for working with data, matplotlib and Seaborn for charts, and scikit-learn when a question needs a model rather than a formula. I also cover SQL for pulling the data in the first place.

A lot of my work is helping people find the right tool for the job. Plenty of tasks belong in Excel and should stay there. Some are being done by hand in a spreadsheet every month when twenty lines of Python would do it once. Knowing which is which is most of the skill, and it is the part courses tend to skip.

I work with students who need these tools for coursework, professionals handed a reporting task they were never trained for, and career changers moving into analyst roles. Sessions are practical. Bring the spreadsheet, dataset or report you are stuck on and we will build it together, so you leave with a working file rather than notes about one.

Available online or in person in Toronto. Tell me what you are trying to build and what tools you have access to, and I will suggest where to start.
