• Tell us more about your subject. How did you develop an interest in this field?

  I'm an engineer by education and before 3 Idiots released, I was the one who quit my well paying corporate job to pursue my passion for photography & film making. It started with wedding photography back then and slowly and steadily, I learned the art & the craft of it. Now I have an award-winning wedding photography brand based in India (http://magica.in) and a fashion photography brand based in Russia (http://rishphotography.com)

• What or who is the motivation behind you choosing to teach & why?

  The sheer passion towards art is what inspired me. Also, a quote that I read somewhere which was "The goal is not to live forever. The goal is to create something that does". And I'm a true believer that art you create will always outlast you.

• How does your work help society?

  Through what I do, I'm practically freezing time for people through photographs. Time passes more quickly than we realize and our memories fade away. Photographs are the only way we can all travel back in time. Who said time machine doesn't exist?

• If you had to think of a role model for your work, who do you think of & why?

  Ironically, I don't follow photographers for my inspiration. My inspiration comes more from painters. Because they're the ones who can *create* light with their brush strokes and can create something from practically a blank canvas.

• Tell us about your hobbies outside teaching.

  I'm a music producer, a director and a perfumist.

• Do you have an anecdote to tell us about your student or professional life?

  Back when I started, Microsoft got in contact with me saying that they loved my photos and they'd like to make a windows theme out of them. And I had an official Microsoft windows theme under the name of "Captured Moments" composed of my photos. It was pretty cool when people from across the globe downloaded that, found me and sent the screenshots of their desktops :)
