About Ella
Kia ora koutou,
I’m Ella, a 2023 High School graduate studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Canterbury. I’ve been recognised nationally for my writing skills (NZ Schools Poetry Award 2022, Sargeson Pirze 2022, National Youth Flash Fiction Prize 2023, Re-Draft anthologies 20-23), and I volunteer as a journalist and as an assistant editor for Aotearoa’s largest youth-run media company, Create Happy. In high school, I sat the Scholarship English paper from years 11-13, achieving it in my final year with no teaching. In years 11 and 12, I was endorsed with excellence in English, Classics, and overall, and in year 13, I received merit endorsements in all of these areas.

I will offer guidance with developing a strong writing style and writing essays that achieve well in the NCEA system and elsewhere. As a relatively new tutor (albeit with a breadth of experience editing and critiquing essays), I think I will be best suited to year 11 and 12 students.
As a recent high school graduate who achieved highly in Classics and English at all levels and achieved NCEA levels 1 & 2 with Excellence endorsements, I have insider tips and tricks that I have learnt through my own experience. I am building on these skills with the knowledge I am earning in my current tertiary studies.
