About Maya

When I was in university, I took essay-based courses for fun and as grade boosters -- I have never gotten a bad grade on anything graded on oral or written communication. I have experience in oral presentations and creating slideshows, writing essays and research summaries, creating lab reports, and have won multiple writing awards/bursaries for creative writing.

I proofread essays for several classmates, one of whom went from a C to an A from the suggestions I made on his papers. I am incredibly patient, and I truly do want you to do well -- I firmly believe that anyone can write well if they are given the right tools to do it, and I would love to prove that to you.

About the lesson

I think that the hardest part of writing essays in university is that there are very few resources to help you -- it is much harder to find someone who can help you structure your papers and proofread your work compared to someone who is looking for supplementary instruction for a math or science course. I think that writing courses would be a lot easier for a lot of people if they just knew somebody who was good at writing and had the time to work with them.

What I am offering you is my time and a promise that writing a paper does not need to be boring or stressful -- you might just need someone to talk through the process with you, or give you a second opinion.

If you have trouble structuring your essays or putting your thoughts into words, I can talk you through the writing process and teach you how to express your ideas in a way that will resonate with your professor. If your writing is repetitive, we can work on alternative phrases and finding more expressive ways to make your points.

If you struggle with spelling and grammar or English is not your first language, I can proofread your work and make suggestions on how to improve your communication.

If you do not even know where to start, I can provide you with tools to find the answers in your assignment so that you can get past the writer's block. Writing an essay, on any topic, is easy to do once you understand what the professor is looking for and what your own writing style is.
