About Jean-Philippe

I'm a huge music passionate since my childhood, having first learnt the piano, then started playing bass at 12 years old alongside drums & trumpet, and more recently guitar (mostly electric). I love a lot of diverse musical genres, notably rock, metal, fusion jazz, retrowave and classical music. I work in the video field, mostly as an editor, sound mixer & videographer.

About the lesson

I'll take my students through an initiation to what is actually the role of low-pitch instruments (bass guitar, double bass, tuba...) and their importance in bringing a richer flavour to music, backed up by a musical "awakening" to recognise basslines in popular musical genres & songs and to develop an ear for dissecting musical composition & layering. The first phase of the course will consist of pure fingering exercises dedicated to increase fluidity, dexterity & speed on both hands coupled with some basic first steps (position of the arms & body, playing positions while sitting and standing up). Second phase of the course will take my students through a list of 5 to 10 songs of their choices with an increase in difficulty while learning one new technique and style with each of them. Third phase can consist of more advanced techniques like slap & tapping. Last but not least, there will be a pinch of music theory and sheets and tablatures deciphering.

Wow! Having Jean-Philippe as a guitar teacher was one of the smartest things I've done! I am learning to play acoustic and electric, while he plays both, as well as bass.

The best part about learning from him is that he teaches you the basics, then you have a visual example with a song. For example, I learned how to do a muffle strumming exercise with "Eye of the Tiger." Then, I learned how to "hammer on" and "pull off" by playing "Pink Panther."

Jean-Philippe also asks you what songs you want to play and he teaches you that, while showing you how to add improvisations. He also created tab sheets for each lesson and sends them to you, along with a recording of him playing the song.

Jean-Philippe was never impatient or rude; always patient and encouraging! Not to mention, his price is very reasonable and he is able to adapt to your schedule.

I would highly recommend Jean-Philippe as I continue to go to him for lessons as I type.
