About Sara
I believe that a good tutor should be someone a student feels comfortable learning with. I am dependable, encouraging, and committed to creating a space where students can ask questions, work through mistakes, and build confidence without feeling judged.
During my undergraduate studies, I provided free tutoring in various math and science courses, helping students strengthen their understanding of challenging material. I also led Supplemental Instruction sessions for Organic Chemistry I and II and General Chemistry I and II. These small-group sessions focused on peer-to-peer learning, collaborative problem-solving, and helping students develop the confidence to tackle difficult concepts independently.
As a Biomedical Sciences master’s student with a background in Biomedical Engineering, I understand the demands of rigorous STEM coursework. My tutoring experience has taught me how to explain complex ideas in different ways, adapt to students’ needs, and create an encouraging learning environment.

My approach to tutoring is centered around understanding the material rather than simply memorizing it. I like to break complicated topics into smaller, manageable pieces and connect new concepts to things the student already understands. I also encourage students to explain concepts back to me in their own words, which helps identify gaps in understanding and builds confidence.
A typical lesson starts by reviewing what the student is currently working on and identifying the areas that are giving them the most trouble. From there, we work through concepts together using examples, diagrams, practice questions, and active recall. I adjust each session based on the student's needs—sometimes that means slowing down and rebuilding a foundation, while other times it means focusing on challenging practice questions and exam preparation.
What sets me apart is my own experience navigating demanding STEM coursework. With a background in Biomedical Engineering and my current Biomedical Sciences graduate studies, I understand how overwhelming science courses can be. I want students to feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes without feeling embarrassed. My goal is not just to help students get through one assignment or exam, but to help them develop study habits and problem-solving skills they can continue using on their own.
I am happy to work with students at a variety of levels, from middle and high school students taking science courses to undergraduate students studying biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and other biomedical sciences. I can also tailor sessions toward specific classes, upcoming exams, homework, or general help building a stronger foundation in science.
