About Estuardo De Jesus
I coach drums with an ear for feel as much as for flash. I notice timing, balance between limbs, and whether the groove still sounds like music when things get busy. If a cue does not help, I switch tools: a quieter limb, a spoken rhythm, a different counting grid, or a comparison between two motions so you can feel which one stays relaxed at tempo.
I am steady and direct beside the kit, patient with the messy middle of coordination. I do not pretend independence appears overnight; I do insist every session leaves you with a smaller listening target you can own. That tone works for a kid learning their first beat and for a serious player cleaning a band chart.
My feedback is specific. You will hear what I heard—“the kick arrives early only into the fill”—more often than generic praise or pressure. I want you able to diagnose your own groove at home, because that is how drumming improves between lessons.
A session with me feels organized and musical. You play a lot, pause to listen, fix one layer, then return to the song. Expect less mystery and more usable structure around how the kit locks together.

In my drum lessons the pocket comes from listening first. Before we pile on fills and fancy independence, we make sure you can hear the groove you want—sometimes from a song, sometimes from a simple model I play—and then we build only what serves that feel. If your hi-hat drifts when the snare enters, we strip the kit back, match the target pulse with one limb, and only then restack the others. Beginners use this for first backbeats; returning and advanced players use it for ghost notes, odd meters, or grooves that lean only under speed.
I often use short musical challenges instead of endless full-kit run-throughs. You might keep a steady ride for eight bars while I change only the snare pattern, or play hands alone against a click while feet rest, then swap. When tempo exposes a collapse, we find the exact bar, change the subdivision so the weak spot cannot hide, and rebuild at a tempo your ear can still supervise. Children work with short loops and big, clear motions; teens and adults can dig into style, dynamics, and denser independence while keeping the same listen-then-stack logic.
Fills are treated as answers to the groove, not interruptions. I have you play the song’s feel first, then design a fill that exits and re-enters the pocket cleanly. Vocabulary grows inside music you recognize whenever possible, so technique stays attached to real drumming rather than floating as drills.
Home practice follows a simple cycle: hear the target, isolate the limb that lies, prove it alone, then combine and stress-test. You learn to notice when the kit is speaking clearly versus when one part is guessing—and that skill travels from first rock beats to demanding charts.
