About Tomisin
I was 14 years old when I realised I wanted to be a film director. I would travel from my flat in South London to France in the 1960s, to Italy in the 1940s, to Germany in the 20s. I was transported to different cultures and communities from my small living room, immersed in the lives and stories of the characters captured on screen. From a young age I grasped the power of story and its ability to enthral an audience.
If it's not already obvious, I love cinema. The films I saw growing up have been etched in my subconscious. Work as varied as the cinema of Italian Neorealism, to 1920s German Expressionism, to the French New Wave and Jean Luc Godard and Francois Trufaut and then the work of Ingmar Bergman, Martin Scorsese, Paul Thomas Anderson, Yasujiro Ozu...the list goes on. My award winning work as a film-maker is primarily influenced by these cinematic giants. I love these directors because their films are emblematic of their unique and singular sensibility and style.
As a teacher and tutor, I actively champion the process of each student finding their own voice as an artist. What stories do they want to tell, what themes and genres do they want to explore? How do they want to visually translate these stories on screen?
I believe we all have a distinct identity as storytellers, utilising the craft and language of the cinema, I actively work with my students to unearth their own compelling stories and film-making grammar.

I directed my first short film when I was 18 and I haven't looked back. Film-making is such a transformative experience. My award winning shorts as a writer and director has screened at several Oscar and BAFTA-Qualifying festivals, these include Sundance, BFI London Film Festival, London Short Film Festival and several others.
I have held masterclasses and taught film-making and script-writing at institutions like University of East London (UEL), London Film School, Met Film School, London Screen Academy, University of the Arts London (UAL) and several other places.
In my sessions, I'll break down the process of crafting a story from the page to the screen. How do you translate your ideas on the page? How do you work with actors on set? How do you make a film with limited resources? Some of my award winning shorts were shot for as little as £500. It is absolutely possible to make a compelling short film on a low budget.
I am deeply passionate about what I do and I translate that love of the craft in my practical and hands on teaching style. I studied Film and TV Studies at Royal Holloway University so I also have a theoretical background that has shaped my voice and visual language as a film-maker.
Each lesson will run for two hours so we have enough time to explore as much as we can. Age 16+
